Edwin Maqueda's New Blog Post

Hi, my name is Edwin Maqueda I am a sophomore majoring in computer science at CSN. I was raised in Las Vegas and grew up here. I enjoy sports and playing guitar, but I also fascinated by computers, programming, and technology. This passion has led me to major in computer science. After getting my associates at CSN I plan on transferring to UNLV to continue my education and pursue my bachelor's in computer science.

When I first arrived to CSN I was surprised by the size of the campus and the amount resources that is provided to students. Another thing that shocked me was how supportive the professors and students are. My first impression of IS101 is that it is a tough class that involves lots of work and communication. What I learned from first couple of weeks in IS01 is that to succeed one has to know how to manage their time and keep track of tasks and assignments.

The skill that I chose was about cloud storage and specifically about using OneDrive on file explorer. After learning about cloud storage, I have changed the way I store my files not only on OneDrive but on my computer as well. It has helped made navigating and organizing my files more efficient.

  1. Associate degree at CSN then Bachelor degree at UNLV (my alma mater)? Excellent plan, Edwin!

Very glad to hear you found the professors and students at CSN to be supportive :-)

Cloud storage is a wonderful thing and using OneDrive through Windows File Explorer is even better.

Time management and staying on top of task assignments will not only help you succeed in IS101-3205, Spring 2025 but any other class and anything else in life ^_^

  3. Hello Edwin! That is an excellent goal, and I bet you will achieve that goal with ease. I'm rooting for you! Yes, CSN has a lot of helpful resources, and they also have very helpful staff members. When I was starting my journey, I was so lost in what to do and how to get to where I wanted to be, and they walked me through the whole process of applying and what classes to take. I love the cloud storage and the ability to pull my files from any desktop, laptop, or mobile device I am on.

  4. Hi Edwin! Playing an instrument is an awesome skill that I wish I had. I used to play piano when I was younger but fell out of touch with it. I've recently been thinking about picking it back up and teaching myself how to replay. Computer science is a great career path and I think it will been very useful as technology continues to advance. Time management is so important for IS101, and anything else in life as Professor Wu mentioned! OneDrive is very helpful and I am glad that it has made a good impact on the way you are saving documents. Good luck on your journey into computer science!

  5. Hey there Edwin! I was born and raised in Las Vegas too. That was a great skill you shared about using OneDrive through Windows File Explorer. It’s so much faster and more convenient than accessing it through a browser. I really appreciate how seamlessly OneDrive works on both my Windows computer and MacBook thanks to cloud storage. I wish you the best of luck this semester and onwards at UNLV!

  7. Hello Edwin, I hope you achieve your goal of pursuing a bachelor's in computer science. This course does require us, as students, to manage time so that we can complete the assignments effectively and efficiently as Mr. Wu has mentioned above. Cloud storage is a tool that gives us easy access to files from different devices which leads us to work efficiently.

  8. Hii Edwin!

    I too am a Vegas native! I hope it's okay to ask, what is your favorite song to play on guitar if you have mastered any? I wanted to learn but I soon realized that my fingers were not long enough to hit chords. ;-;

Glad to hear that you feel supported by the students and faculty here! So glad to have another supportive student here!

I hope to hear more about cloud storage on your blog, as I am currently struggling to learn how to organize my information and files, LOL!

  9. Seems like you have a pretty solid plan to pursue your bachelor's degree. I could not agree more with how surprising it was to see the size of this campus. I remember when it was named Community College of Southern Nevada, but I never got to go on campus. Cloud storage has been one of the most useful methods of storage, because it allows us to access our files from anywhere.

  10. Great post, Edwin!

It's inspiring to hear about your journey and how you're balancing your passion for computer science with your hobbies. I can definitely relate to the importance of time management you mentioned for succeeding in tough classes like IS101.

Also, I think it’s awesome that you're into sports! Personally, I’m really into soccer, MMA and CrossFit. As for your guitar playing, I'd love to hear what kind of music you like to play—I also play guitar, and I enjoy a little bit of everything, from metal and rock to jazz and blues.

  11. Hi there! I'm born and raised here in Vegas as well. I'm personally still unsure whether or not I want to pursue a bachelors yet since there really isn't a Cybersecurity bachelors offered in Nevada, at the very least not here in Vegas.

  12. Hey Edwin! This should be my last semester at CSN but I am not sure what school to go to next. UNLV is a great option but I'm looking into WGU, as an option as well. I never used OneDrive before, but I have been using this feature ever since it has been introduced to us.

  17. Hi Edwin, CSN is a welcoming and friendly school. Before CSN, I was at UNLV the first semester of my college. I will say that use the resources that CSN provides you with and also appreciate the professors and instructors because they care a lot more than bigger schools.

  19. Hi Edwin,

I was also born in Las Vegas, and I love this city. But I am starting to miss the peace and tranquility. UNLV is a good school I have a lot of buddies attending that school.
